Perez Handcuffs Enforcers, Mavericks Seize 1-0 Advantage in R1
|
The Montreal Mavericks started the Round 1 in dramatic fashion today, stealing Game 1 from the New York Enforcers in a walk-off in the 11th inning. Montreal took the 3-2 win thanks in large part to a good day from starter David Perez. The right-hander threw 7 innings allowing 1 run in the win, which gave the Mavericks a 1-0 lead to start the best-of-7 series.
Late in the game, third baseman Bernard Ortiz had a big at-bat for Montreal. In the bottom of the 11th, he hit a run-scoring single off Ken Hunter. The play gave the Mavericks a 3-2 lead.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," Perez said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
Game 2 is set to be played tomorrow at The Ranch. The scheduled starters for the game are Andres Franco for New York and Christopher Laux for Montreal.
