IT'S UL VS. SL TIME AGAIN FOR 20TH ANNUAL SIMBL ALL-STAR GAME

UL vs. SL Rivalry Continues As Leagues Are Armed & Ready For Annual SIMBL Midsummer Classic

Aces Deer Lake's Glenn Murphy (left) and Texas' Richard Dicks Jr. (right) have been named the starters for their respective Union League and Syndicate League All-Star teams in the 20th annual SIMBL Midsummer Classic to be held in 2024 SIM 15 in Honolulu, Hawaii.  Murphy is off to a 13-3 2.80 ERA start in the 2024 SIMBL season first half while Dicks Jr. is 11-4 with a SIMBL-best 1.95 ERA.  Murphy is making his fourth SIMBL All-Star Game spanning both the SIMBL First File Era and SIMBL New File Era.  Dicks Jr., the seventh overall pick in the first round of the 2019 SIMBL New File Era Inaugural Draft, makes his third SIMBL All-Star appearance.

The 2024 SIMBL All-Stars have been announced.

The 20th Nicolas Mabie Memorial SIMBL All-Star Game will be hosted by GM John McGuinness' Hawaii Pineapples at their E Komo Mai Field.

There are plenty of familar SIMBL stars and also plenty of fresh faces as both leagues officially announced their starters and reserves for the SIMBL's Midsummer Classic rivalry between the Union and Syndicate Leagues.  The SL holds a 12-7 all-time series lead over their UL rivals though the UL slipped by the SL last season 3-1 in Bristol, Connecticut.

The UL seems to hold the star power advantage this season in starting lineups.  Every UL starter outside New York C Adam Wilson has three or more All-Star games under their belts compared to only four of the same in the SL starting lineup.

Barring any tiredness aces Texas' Richard Dicks Jr. and Deer Lake's Glenn Murphy are slated to start for their leagues.

Whitby GM John Callahan's Battalion tied a SIMBL record with four of their starting pitching rotation being named UL All-Stars: Deangelo Ceja, Ryan Thomas, Trevor Brooks and Brian Woods.  Las Vegas GM Carl Hannah's Hustlers also tied a SIMBL record as Alan Alexander Anderson, Mario Alfonso, Alex Lynch and Jim Spears all were named SL All-Stars from their starting pitching staff.  The Hustlers had a SIMBL-record ten players named to the SL All-Star team.

Each team is represented this season with at least one All-Star.  

Calgary ace Vinny Corleone and Charlotte slugger Chance Bailey remained a perfect six-for-six in earning their sixth consecutive All-Star team berths in the SIMBL New File Era's sixth season of play.  New York 3B Troy Baca, who returned to the SIMBL as a free agent this past off-season after five years away from the league, also made the sixth All-Star game of his career spanning both the SIMBL First File and SIMBL New File Eras.

Corleone, Baca and Bailey are joining the SIMBL greats as only seven other players in SIMBL history have been named to more SIMBL All-Star Games: San Diego SIMBL Hall Of Fame 3B Daryl Ryles (10), Calgary C Adam Wells (10), San Diego SP Bobby Grimes (10), Marin-Sacramento and Birmingham 1B Glenn Knapp (8), Oregon, Toronto and Calgary SIMBL Hall Of Fame 1B Taitarou Haranobu (7), Oregon SS Richard Cummings (7) and Texas 3B Osvaldo Quijada (7).

Calgary 1B Colt McAlister, Hollywood SP Bobby Bruno, Rochester SP Alberto Tovar, Hollywood C Matthew Boggs, Deer Lake 2B Duane Fuller and Oregon CL Andrew Stephens made their fifth All-Star tams.  Fuller's five appearance span the SIMBL First File Era (3) and the current SIMBL New File Era (2).

San Diego CL Willie Roger DeMarco, Dallas OF Tony Aguilar, Bend OF Alberto Delgado, Calgary OF Carlos Molina, Cleveland OF Miguel Espinoza, Bristol SP Oki Okada and Calgary OF Matthew Brown made the fourth All-Star games of their careers.  Boston OF Benjamin Rodriguez, Deer Lake SP Glenn Murphy and Whitby SP Deangelo Ceja make their fourth All-Star game appearances also spanning both the SIMBL First File Era and SIMBL New File Era as all three returned to the SIMBL as free agents during recent off-seasons after several seasons away from the league.

Despite the veterans making their first SIMBL All-Star game in their sixth year in the league, Bristol MR Ron Orr, New York CL Andrew Steele, Calgary MR Luis Martinez, Whitby 1B Toby Gibson and Las Vegas MR Billy Ray Mendette break the longest droughts between All-Star game recognition all having gone in the 2019 first season of the SIMBL New File Era five seasons ago.

The 2024 SIMBL All-Star break is in effect and the 2024 SIMBL All-Star Game will be held Saturday January 5, 2012 during 2024 SIM 15 which will also include the usual three-game SIM up to the Monday after the All-Star Game to officially start the second-half of the 2024 SIMBL season.

BATTALION'S GIBSON & PINEAPPLES' GONZALEZ NAMED 2024 SIM 14 PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Major Deals Continue In SIMBL As Stars Ron Jackson, Ron Orr, Cesar Delgado & Oki Okada Shipped Off; Hollywood's SIMBL Batting Leader & All-Star Shi Shelved For Six Weeks

At the age of 32, Toby Gibson might have some potential he hasn't realized yet -- if his success at the plate last week is any indication. The Whitby first baseman put up some exceptional numbers the past seven days with a .480 batting average. For his efforts Gibson collected the Union League Player of the Week Award.

He racked up 12 hits in 25 at-bats, 2 home runs and 5 RBIs last week in 6 games.

For the season Gibson is hitting .313, batted in 68 runs with 19 home runs and 56 runs scored.

So far in his young career, Julio Gonzalez has kept a low profile, but after his performance at the plate last week, he attracted the notice of the rest of the Syndicate League in a big way as he was named the Player of the Week today for his efforts.

The 22-year-old Hawaii Pineapples right fielder hit at a torrid .478 clip as he collected 11 hits in 23 at-bats, no home runs, 7 RBIs and 5 runs scored.

Gonzalez is presently batting .234 with no home runs, 14 runs scored and 10 RBIs. His OBP is .377.

On the heels of a very productive June, Carlos Molina received Union League Batter of the Month recognition today.

The battle-tested left fielder hit .314 for the Calgary Clippers and racked up 9 home runs, 23 RBIs and 20 runs scored.

This season Molina is batting .311 with 99 hits, 31 home runs, 75 RBIs, .369 OBP and has scored 56 runs.

When Micah Irwin stepped up to the plate in June, he did it with confidence and today he was honored with the Syndicate League Batter of the Month award.

The young Las Vegas catcher posted a .348 batting average with 5 home runs, 17 RBIs and scored 22 runs. Irwin also worked pitchers for 16 walks to post a .449 on-base percentage.

This year Irwin is hitting .295 with 14 home runs and 46 RBIs in 72 games played. He also boasts an OBP of .388 with 42 walks and 53 runs scored.

Both Starting Pitchers All-Star Game Bound After Spectacular June Performances

Oki Okada's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 5-1 in June, the 29-year-old Bristol hurler has been named Union League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 32 in 48 innings, logged an ERA of 1.13 and allowed opponents to hit .159 against him.

On his stats sheet this season Okada shows a 9-5 record, 18 starts, 132.1 innings, 89 strikeouts and a 2.31 ERA.

Veteran Alex Lynch put together quite a successful stretch in June for the Las Vegas Hustlers, earning himself the Syndicate League Pitcher of the Month award.

Lynch racked up a 5-0 record in 6 starts, posting a 2.94 ERA over 49 innings and striking out 31.

This year Lynch has compiled a 12-3 record with a 3.62 ERA

At the age of 30, Colt McAlister might have some potential he hasn't realized yet -- if his success at the plate last week is any indication. The Calgary first baseman put up some exceptional numbers the past seven days with a .556 batting average. For his efforts McAlister collected the Union League Player of the Week Award.

He racked up 10 hits in 18 at-bats, no home runs and 4 RBIs last week in 6 games.

So far this year McAlister is hitting .317 with 27 home runs.

A battle-tested Benjamin Rodriguez declared war on opposing pitchers last week, attacking the ball like the well-schooled veteran he is. Today the 33-year-old Boston left fielder collected the Syndicate League Player of the Week Award.

He wrapped up the week with a .478 average, 11 hits in 23 at-bats, 5 home runs, 12 RBIs and 6 runs scored.

So far this season, Rodriguez has recorded a .268 batting average with 87 hits, 17 home runs, 67 RBIs, 51 runs scored and a .331 OBP.
