LANCE'S LISTS: SIMBL FINANCIALS GOING INTO 2024 FREE AGENCY
New tighter SIMBL financial regulations will force some teams to try to reduce salaries and benefit other teams who need top-tier talent such as three-time All-SIMBL DH DeShaun Mack (above) of Westbury who is currently on the trade block along with third-place 2023 UL MVP finisher Carlos Molina of Calgary and others. Expect more top names becoming more common on the trade block and in future free agency off-seasons due to the improved SIMBL financial system and original 2019 SIMBL New File Era Inaugural Draft draftees playing in the sixth and final season of arbitration-eligibility this season says SIMBL Financial Commissioner and CFO Bill Atteberry who spent countless hours on researching, testing and making improvements to the known OOTP financial bug and SIMBL financial game engine.
By Lance Stanley SIMBL Contributor
Hi again youngsters. Lance Stanley reporting.
With the tweaks and solutions made recently by SIMBL Financial Commissioner and CFO Bill Atteberry, the availability of cash for players to demand has been constricted considerably. Previously, there was too much money and too much inflation in the SIMBL's financial engine for players to want their cut of the pie. This was resulting in unrealistic contract demands heading towards the $40,000,000+ range for some top players which would set the common ceiling and would have just increased more outrageous in seasons to come.
The SIMBL league average team payroll going into 2024 free agency as of the 11/26/2023 league date is:
$110,841,901
Thus, the luxury tax still applies in the SIMBL and hasn't been changed. It's a 115% soft cap with a 50% tax once you reached 115% of the league average payroll. Some teams got hit very hard this season because of this and it is starting to work to level the playing field and will result in hopefully more strategic financial team decisions to make resulting in lucrative free agents beginning with next off-season.
Currently, some teams are currently over-budget and have no means to sign free agents and/or extending current contracts outside of dumping salaries: the Boston Revolution of GM Dennis Walters, Calgary GM Christian DeMarco's defending SIMBL Champion Clippers, Cleveland GM Jonathan Fitzgerald's Brownies and Hawaii GM John McGuinness' Pineapples.
Some teams have to make decisions as well this season as their financial windows are closing and they are tightening for future planning: Deer Lake GM Chip Orton's Direwolves, Las Vegas GM Carl Hannah's Hustlers, Montreal GM Bill Atteberry's Expos, the Oregon Pioneers of GM Tim Melican and the Texas Roadrunners of GM Pat Flanagan.
Three playoff-caliber teams are setup nicely with plenty of room to land a top free agent to chase a SIMBL championship and extend their core of players for seasons to come. The Hollywood Stars of GM Rodney Baylor, winners of two SIMBL championships in the past four seasons and the San Diego Warewolves of GM Kevin Norris are sitting pretty financially to make big moves without worrying about the monetary troubles as some other top contending teams are currently having.
Chicago Hitmen GM John Bowden may be the most dangerous team to watch up and coming. The Hitmen finished 86-76 last season and missed the SL wildcard berth by just one game and the SL East division title by just two games with the SIMBL's youngest team and smallest payroll. It is expected that Bowden will go after a top free agent or two or make a big trade involving a big-time/big-contract player to help him make his team an title contender. SIMBL superstars Carlos Molina of Calgary and DeShaun Mack of Westbury are in trade talks and Chicago is expected to go hard after top free agent slugger Mario Montalbano, if not others.
"SIMBL GMs have to start worrying about revenue more than budgets," says Atteberry who is a beta tester for the OOTP financial engine development. "Too many GMs get fooled by the budget fascination. If your team only made $100,000,000 last season and your team owner sets your budget at $150,000,000 and you spend to it while only making $100,000,000 then do the math. Hard times will be coming to hurt that team as soon as the very next season restricting teams to extend the players that they want and/or sign any free agents to improve their team."
Atteberry posted a league announcement again to SIMBL GMs urging them to hear his warnings:
"The tweaks we made this off-season to the SIMBL financial system were well-researched and test SIMMED and to help counter a known bug in OOTP 11 and OOTP 13. Previously, the SIMBL had TOO much money and inflation out there for the players to demand which was resulting in annual $30,000,000+ demands for the elite players. If unchecked, the salaries would've just kept getting into the $40,000,000 and $50,000,000 a season range of ridiculousness.
A Reminder!!!
Managing the financials is about expenses vs revenue, NOT budget.
The only way to estimate revenue is to look at last season as a guide. When you do that there could be two differences you will need to account for.
1) Applies to everyone - Media Revenue is it has dropped from $35,000,000 to $20,000,000 so you will get $15,000,000 less starting this season.
2) If your ticket price was not $20 last season, then your gate revenue will be different. All teams will be required to be set at $20 starting this season. You can estimate this by the following formula (not hard math here):
Last season's gate revenue X $20 or your last years ticket price = estimated gate revenue for the coming season.
You will only need that formula this season. Next year you can estimate just by looking at last years gate revenue."
Here is a breakdown of each team's available money for signing free agents and contract extensions going into 2024 free agency as of the 11/26/2023 league date:

KRAUS, BACA, LATTA JOIN AS 2024 SIMBL FREE AGENTS ANNOUNCED
Phenom 'Dillweed' Given Final Chance After Being Banned For Life From Three Previous Leagues
Former five-time SIMBL All-Star Troy Baca (above) returns to the SIMBL as a 2024 free agent at large after spending the past five seasons starring in Japan. The 32 year-old third baseman was one of the most feared sluggers when he left the SIMBL after the 2018 season concluded and ended the SIMBL First File Era. Baca joins 'Dillweed' phenom SP Michael Kraus and Gold Glove CF prototype Hugo Latta as additions to a weak off-season free agency class.
28 year-old phenom SP Michael Kraus (above stoned out of his mind during a game last season in Mexico) may have reached his last chance at using his baseball talents as The SIMBL League Office has allowed Kraus to enter the league as a free agent at large during the 2024 off-season. The talented 7/7/8-rated righthander has an elite changeup and three stellar pitches to impress SIMBL scouts who expect him to be one of the top twenty starting pitchers in the SIMBL immediately. Kraus was given a 'one-strike' allowance by SIMBL Commissioner Christian DeMarco indicating that if Kraus fails just one league mandated drug test he will banned from the SIMBL indefinately and permanently resulting in the fourth league that Kraus would be banned from for life.
2024 RETURNING FIRST FILE ERA FREE AGENTS:
Players Must Be Offered No Less Than $10,000,000 Per Season
SP Michael Kraus 28 7/7/8 3B Troy Baca 32 7/6/9/5/6 CF Hugo Latta 31 8/9/4/6/6
The 2024 SIMBL free agents have been officially announced.
The cream of a weak crop of current SIMBL free agents this off-season will be former Oregon Mario Montalbano. The 32 year-old was the former #8 overall pick in the first round of the 2019 SIMBL New File Era Inaugural Draft. 'Super Mario' posted four consecutive seasons of 30+ HR and 100+ RBI in his first four seasons before posting a .271 batting average with career-lows of 28 HR and 66 RBI in 136 games in an injury-plagued season last year.
One incoming free agent at large and two returning stars from the SIMBL First File Era will enter the SIMBL this off-season.
28 year-old right-handed pitcher Michael Kraus will attempt to resurrect his troubled-filled career in the SIMBL. Kraus, widely known to enjoy the wacky tobacco, has been thrown out of three previous leagues and banned for life from them during the past five seasons due to failed drug tests.
Kraus was cleared by the SIMBL League Office to enter the SIMBL by revealing a series of passed drug tests. Kraus, a known and outspoken advocate for NORML, the national organization for the legalization of marijuana laws to be reformed, is described by SIMBL scouts as a "very solid pitcher who is a borderline ace with very solid stuff and control and three above average pitches including an elite changeup". SIMBL computer analysts have Kraus throwing 235 innings, allowing 218 hits, striking out 211, walking 52, 25 home runs allowed with a 3.49 ERA. SIMBL scouts compared Kraus a younger version of Joey Morgan, Cleveland's solid veteran SP and is expected to be among the league's top twenty rated starting pitchers.
Kraus has been given a 'one-strike allowance' by SIMBL Commissioner Christian DeMarco indicating that if he fails just one drug test he will banned from the league indefinately. DeMarco referred to Kraus as "a 'dillweed' who we have faith will turn his life around in the SIMBL and play to his extreme potential." Kraus made infamy when he was named "Baseball's #1 Pothead" by the Sporting News and made the cover of the magazine's infamous "Top Potheads In Baseball" issue.
Two players from the SIMBL New File Era will return to the SIMBL after five seasons away from their former league.
Former Las Vegas 3B/1B Troy Baca has been cleared to re-enter the SIMBL this off-season. Baca is now 32 years-old and was a five-time SIMBL All-Star after being selected with #7 overall pick in the 2010 SIMBL Draft. "Chewy" was one of the SIMBL's most feared sluggers in the SIMBL First File Era slugging 25+ home runs in all of his six full seasons and slugging 30+ home runs in four of them and belting 40 dingers in 2013. Baca hit .311 with 27 HR and 101 RBI in his last SIMBL season in 2018.
Baca went on to star in the Japan League after the end of the SIMBL First File Era in 2018 and was an All-Star the past four seasons winning the league's MVP award two seasons ago when he hit .301 with 44 HR and 129 RBI.
Baca is described by scouts as a "threat to every time he gets to the plate with outstanding power who will hit for average as well. No pitcher will want to face Baca." Baca's expected statistics by SIMBL analysts based on 550 AB, give him a .305 batting average with 168 hits, 30 doubles, 44 BB, 92 K and 36 home runs.
Former Calgary Clippers CF Hugo Latta will also join Kraus and Baca as additional 2024 free agents.
Latta led the SIMBL in the last season of the 2016-2018 SIMBL Steroid Era with 251 hits and helped lead the Clippers to the 2018 SIMBL championship. The 31 year-old is your prototypical speedy leadoff man and offensive catalyst stealing 82 and 88 bases in his first two SIMBL seasons in 2017 and 2018.
Latta is also your prototypical Gold Glove center fielder with elite defensive skills and range. He re-enters the SIMBL coming off a Gold Glove 2018 season and will immediately take his place again as one of the premier defensive and speed players in the league.
Latta went home to his native Venezuela after the 2018 season ending the SIMBL First File Era. Latta played in the Venezuela League the past five seasons and starred there as a four-time All-Star leading the league in stolen bases in four of those seasons. Latta hit .288 with 11 HR 82 RBI and 88 SB last season after sitting out the entire season before after having shoulder surgery. The injury didn't hamper Latta at all as he won his fourth consecutive Venezuelan League Gold Glove.
Latta has been labeled by SIMBL scouts as "an excellent if not elite offensive player who you can count on to have a solid season every year who can hold his own against just about any pitcher he faces." Latta also was described by SIMBL scouts as "well above average near elite in the speed and running game and defensively in the outfield."
The three players join the 2024 SIMBL free agents as a class describes as weak by SIMBL pundits after one of the very best free agency classes in the SIMBL's twenty-off-season history last year. With the sixth season of the SIMBL New File Era to be played this upcoming season, the league expects next off-season and beyond to feature deeper free agency classes as all players who entered the league during the first season of the SIMBL New File Era in 2019 will have finished their sixth and final season as arbitration-eligible players and will be free agents next off-season if they are not offered contract extensions during the 2024 season.
All three players above have to be offered a contract no less than $10,000,000 each season.
The three players can be signed without giving up any draft picks. The bottom twelve teams of last season in W-L can sign Type A free agents without giving up their first round draft pick as compensation in the 2024 SIMBL Draft. |
2024 SIMBL ARBITRATION RESULTS ANNOUNCED
The Calgary Clippers tightening of the noose in financials continues as RF Matthew Brown (above) was awarded the highest award in 2024 SIMBL arbitrations. The 23 year-old three-time All-Star is coming off a season in which he set a SIMBL single-season record with 144 stolen bases and was awarded $13,500,000 for next season by SIMBL arbitrators. Brown is the current SIMBL New File Era career leader in stolen bases with 529 swipes since the 2019 season.

TIME RUNNING OUT AS 2024 SIMBL FREE AGENCY DRAWS NEAR
Few Marquee Names Expected In Upcoming Off-Season SIMBL Free Agent Market
Oregon's 'Super' Mario Montalbano (above) may be the cream of the upcoming 2024 SIMBL free agent class crop. The 32 year-old rightfielder was the #8 overall draft pick in the 2019 SIMBL New File Era Inaugural Draft and has played five seasons with the Oregon Pioneers. The 9/9/9/4/5-rated slugger is coming off an injury-plaqued 2023 season in which he posted career lows of 28 HR and 66 RBI. Montalbano was one of a handful of players who posted 30+ HR and 100+ RBI in their first four seasons in the league from the start of the SIMBL New File Era. Montalbano has indicated to the Pioneers that he will test the 2024 SIMBL free agency waters.
With time running out, potential 2024 free agents are looming for a weak but solid upcoming free agent class.
SIMBL GMs have until Sunday November 11, 2012 to sign their free agent-eligible players or lose them to free agency.
Here are the top names and top-rated players still unsigned and potential 2024 SIMBL free agents as of the 11/21/2023 league date:
MR Carlos Aguilar Whitby SP Scott Brewer Sacramento MR Ron Lee Astoria 2B Scotty Reese Rochester LF Mario Montalbano Oregon 3B Jeff Myers Boston SP Kelly Holbrook Rochester 3B Darren Carr Chicago CL Billy Ray Mendette Cleveland C Glenn Wilson Las Vegas 2B Matthew Dupree Calgary MR Andrew Elliott Montreal LF Carlito Reyes Knoxville 2B Wes Paker Asheville MR Joe Funk Astoria CF Oliver Cornett Astoria C Rolland Minor Hawaii SP Nelson Moreno Astoria 1B Michael Stallone Chicago SP Carlos Quintana Oregon 3B Jose Franco Oregon 2B Jesus Guerrero Montreal LF Christopher Pearson Chicago
A limited amount of additional First File Era or incoming free agents will be added to this year's free agency class the SIMBL League Office has announced as well. |

Cleveland & San Diego Backstops Irwin & Smith Win Third Consecutive Awards For Defensive Excellence
Cleveland catcher Micah Irwin (above) has disappointed somewhat thus far early in his SIMBL career offensively despite 9/7/9//9/5 potential. DeMarco Gold Glove Defense Award.
The 2023 SIMBL Richard P. DeMarco Gold Glove Defense Awards have been selected by the game and announced.
