Clips' Superstar Becomes First Player In The SIMBL's 59-Season History To Hit .400, Sets Several New Single-Season Offensive Records; Roadrunners Stud Wins Unprecedented Third Pitching Triple Crown Of Illustrious Career
Big Numbers Net Carson Reese Triple Crown
This season, Carson Reese exhibited a rare combination of hitting both for average and power. Indeed, the Calgary Clippers star claimed baseball's Triple Crown, leading the Union League in batting average, home runs and RBIs.
"I've always taken pride in my ability to hit the ball," Reese said. "But honestly I never thought I'd put up numbers like that."
He led the Union League with a .407 BA, 52 home runs and 170 RBIs. The 35-year-old Clippers center fielder is the 6th player in SIM Baseball League history to do this rare feat. Quite a year for quite a player.
Carson Reese had a campaign in 2063 that will go down as one of the greatest in baseball history. Reese, 35, hit .407, becoming one of only a handful of ballplayers who have ever cracked the .400 barrier. In his brilliant season the Clippers center fielder, who finished 2nd in the SL in OPS with .902 in 2057, banged out 33 doubles, 0 triples and 52 homers. He scored 116 times and batted in 170 runs.
Asked what advice he would give to any budding .400 hitters, Reese said, "Don't let all the hullabaloo get to you. Don't let a bad at-bat or a bad game get to you. I never dwell on the negative things that happen, I just try to learn from them, not repeat them and move on. I read a long time ago that great players all share traits like this. They accentuate the positives and eliminate the negatives."
Julian Escobar of Texas Wins Third Pitching Triple Crown Of Career
Julian Escobar of the Texas Roadrunners could be headed for the Union League Bobby Grimes Hurler Of The Year Award after an unforgettable 2063 season. The Roadrunners pitching star won the league's Triple Crown, winning 22 games, striking out 246 and logging a 2.47 ERA -- all league bests.
"It's an honor," Escobar told BNN, "Not many pitchers can say they've won the Triple Crown let alone three times now in their career. Usually the batting Triple Crown gets all the attention."
In his sensational year he registered 22 wins and 3 losses. An opposing manager said, "I can see how he won 22 games. What I don't understand is how he lost 3."

SHARKS ROOKIE FRANK NIPPER BLANKS ENFORCERS, HURLS SECOND NO-HITTER OF 2063 SEASON
Miami rookie Frank Nipper celebrates after the last out of his no-hitter against divisional rival New York in 2063 SIM 23. The 24 year-old southpaw was the 13th overall pick of the 2059 SIMBL Draft and was a perennial Top 10 prospect before making his SIMBL debut this season. Boston's Anthony Vargo threw the first no-hitter in the SIMBL in nearly three seasons earlier this season.
It was a terrific day for Frank Nipper of the Miami Sharks at Revolution Field today. The rookie left-hander stood out with a fantastic 4-0 no-hitter against the New York Enforcers.
"I knew I had a no-no going in about the sixth inning when I noticed no one was talking to me anymore," he said, referring to the time-honored superstition of avoiding the pitcher so as not to jinx the no-hitter. "Don't let people fool you. Everybody on the field and in the ballpark knows what's happening. They just pretend they don't."
For the game, Nipper totaled no walks and 10 strikeouts in a very strong outing.
"His mechanics were perfect, and I don't think he threw one bad pitch in the whole game," Miami manager AJ Woolley said. "He was that good."
In the current season in 31 starts, Frank Nipper has a record of 10-11 with 164 strikeouts in 220 innings and a 4.54 ERA. |
