TONY AGUILAR, MATTHEW BOGGS & PETER TURNER ENSHRINED IN SIMBL HALL OF FAME'S CLASS OF 2041
Five SIMBL Championships Between The Three Chosen For This Season's Voted Class Of Three
The SIMBL Class Of 2041 Hall Of Fame Inductees (from left to right): Tony Aguilar, Matthew Boggs and Peter Turner.
Tony Aguilar (above) is considered in an argument with the SIMBL First File Era's Daryl Ryles as the best positional player in SIMBL history. Aguilar was the first pick in the second round of the 2019 SIMBL New File Era Inaugural Draft by the former Hartford Whalers and was traded in 2020 to Dallas. His five MVP Awards are tied with fellow Hall Of Famer Colt McAlister, who both traded off UL MVP Awards during the 2020 decade, for second to Ryles' 8 MVPs in league history. Aguilar missed a considerable amount of games in his final several seasons due to injuries and it's fathom to imagine what true final numbers he could've put up before his career was over. A 13-time All-Star, one-time Gold Glove, 20-time Player Of The Week and 11-time Player Of The Month, 'Troop's' 652 career home runs are the most in SIMBL history and he posted the only 60 HR/60 SB season in SIMBL history in 2024. He posted six consecutive 40 HR/40 SB seasons from 2021 to 2026 and seven overall in his career. Aguilar played for Dallas for 13 seasons from 2020-2032 then was traded to Boston where he played in 2032 and 2033 and was traded back to the Texans at the 2033 trade deadline where he finished his illustrious career in Dallas. Aguilar added to his legend in the post-season by being named 2022 ULCS MVP. Clearly, one of the most, along with Ryles, if the not the most dominating offensive force the SIMBL has ever seen thus far n 37 seasons of play. One of the biggest watches for several seasons was to see if Aguilar would ever win a SIMBL championship and in his fourth trip to the SIMBL Coveted Cup Championship Series he finally won his SIMBL ring with the 2034 Texans.
Matthew Boggs (above right) was the premier catcher in the SIMBL during the first decade of the New File Era which started in 2019. Boggs was a third-round draft pick by the former Manhattan Beach Seals in the 2019 SIMBL New File Era Inaugural Draft and quickly established himself as one of the best-hitting catchers in SIMBL history. He was instrumental and helped win the Seals the 2020 SIMBL championship and the Hollywood Bounty Hunters (now Austin Dark Horses) the 2022 SIMBL title as well. A seven-time All-Star and one-time Gold Glove, Boggs retired with a .297 batting average and is considered not only the best hitting catcher in SIMBL history but also one of the best pure overall hitters the league has seen as well. Boggs also added the 2022 SLCS MVP Award to his mantel awaiting 8 years for SIMBL Hall Of Fame enshrinement. Boggs played his first eight seasons in Manhattan Beach-Hollywood then left for big free agency money signing with Oregon where he played for the Pioneers from 2026-2028. He then went to Hawaii for three seasons winning his third SIMBL championship with the Pineapples in 2029. Boggs played a single season with Bend finally leaping to the UL before retiring after the 2032 season.
Peter Turner (above) was one of the most potent sluggers in the first 2020 decade of the SIMBL New File Era and one of the most underappreciated. Turner was a rags to riches story being a 37th round draft pick by Chicago in the 2019 SIMBL New File Era Inaugural Draft. With the first wave of big name sluggers who dominated the decade and MVP races, Turner played under the radar being named to six All-Star teams while consistently putting up solid numbers and winning three Gold Glove Awards at two different positions. He starred for the Hitmen from 2022 through 2034. He then signed with Westbury late in the 2035 season and was instrumental in helping the Cannons win the 2035 SIMBL championship by hitting .261 with 2 HR and 16 RBI, one of the most RBI in one post-season run in SIMBL history, during Westbury's run to the title. A vastly underrated power hitter, his career average season was .260 with 34 HR and 98 RBI in his 16-season career. He played his first 13 seasons with the Hitmen then finished his career playing one season each with Bellingham (now Norfolk) and Cleveland before retiring after the 2037 season. He is one of only 16 players in SIMBL history to hit 400 career home runs and retired 5th on the list and currently sits 9th all-time (including the First File Era's Daryl Ryles' 31-year old long-standing record of 561 career home runs which now currently sits fifth all-time).
On a bright, windy afternoon, Tony Aguilar, the superb left fielder and the SIMBL's all-time home runs leader with 652 career taters, stood outside the doors to the SIM Baseball League Hall of Fame. He collected his thoughts and tried to contain his emotions before entering the shrine to baseball's greatest players.
Aguilar later disclosed some of his thoughts to reporters at the press conference. "To be numbered among these great players," he said, "some of them my idols growing up... that's almost too much to fit my mind around."
Nevertheless, this outstanding performer stepped through those doors to claim his place among baseball's immortals. His induction into the Hall of Fame, which took place yesterday, surprised nobody. He collected votes from 95.2% of the writers.
Tony Aguilar was 45 when he retired from baseball. In 2704 career games he compiled a .278 batting average with 2913 hits, 652 home runs, 1915 RBIs and 1799 runs scored.
During his tenure in the SIM Baseball League Matthew Boggs was nothing but class, on the field and off the field. Now he is part of the Hall of Fame class of 2041, having been elected by 66.7% of eligible voters.
Lifetime, Boggs hit for a .297 average and totaled 1896 hits, 199 home runs and 925 RBIs.
The fine catcher was officially inducted today and took his place among baseball's best. He retired in 2032 at the age of 39.
One of his friends and former teammates told the audience, "The greatest thing he taught me was on my first day in the big leagues -- it was the hustle. He hit two one-hoppers to the pitcher and ran as hard as he could to first base. Matthew set a great example for me to model my career. His hustle and desire -- those were the little things that stood out for me. Plus he's one of the best hitters I've ever played with."
In his speech Boggs expressed his thanks and gratitude to the many people who helped make this wonderful day possible. "I have been truly blessed. I have been able to do something I love and get paid very well for it. There was no place that I ever wanted to be but on the baseball diamond every day doing what I love."
A huge crowd watched Peter Turner become the newest member of the SIM Baseball League Hall of Fame today.
"I'm a big believer in whatever you want, if you want something out of this game, you've got to put the work in it. You've got to work hard," said the outstanding first baseman, whose new plaque described him as "an artisan with a bat whose daily pursuit of excellence produced a .261 lifetime batting average, 2101 hits and 453 home runs."
After the induction ceremony Turner was asked what was the most thrilling moment in his career. He responded quickly, "No doubt about it, your first hit in the big leagues. That's tops. It means you're on your way. When you get the first hit, then you can get the rest."
The ballots are counted and the results are in. This year we will witness two players added to the Hall of Fame. Tony Aguilar, and Matthew Boggs received the ultimate honor this year in being voted as the newest members of the Hall of Fame.
The full voting results are included here. Players require 66% of ballots cast to be elected to the Hall, and stay on the ballot as long as they receive at least 0% of the votes. Players must be retired before they are eligible for induction to the Hall of Fame.
