LANCE'S LISTS: A LOOK AT 2023 OPENING DAY SIMBL PAYROLLS
SIMBL GMs Spending & Slashing As League Average Payroll & Impending Luxury Tax Continue To Climb
Many SIMBL pundits believed that Las Vegas GM Carl Hannah overpaid tremendously for OF Robinson O'Neil (above) in this past off-season. The Hustlers made the soon-to-be 36 year-old OBP-machine the SIMBL's highest-paid player by signing him to a $36,000,000 a season two year-deal. The Hustlers are one of the teams with substantial team payroll increase going from third-lowest last season to the fourteenth-highest SIMBL payroll this season.

Hi again bedwetters. Lance Stanley reporting.
The influx of returning First File Era players to the SIMBL the past few off-seasons has undoubtedly peaked the interests of the GMs in the SIMBL and also has peaked the checkbooks, team payrolls and league average payrolls as SIMBL GMs bid heavily for such players to help improve their teams at a high price.
The 2023 SIMBL Opening Day average league payroll stands at $124,983,905. There are currently 27 players with salaries over $20,000,000 a season up substantially from only 15 a season ago.
After 2022 off-season returnees OF Benjamin Rodriguez of Cleveland and SP Deangelo Ceja of Whitby were the only players who broke the $30,000,000 per season barrier last season. This season six players are being paid over $30,000,000 as well.
The star players of Calgary GM Christian DeMarco have put his team up to over $188,000,000, a substantial spike from last season's top SIMBL team salary of over $165,000,000, as the Clippers remain the highest team payroll in the SIMBL from a season ago.
Dallas GM Robert Don's two-time defending UL Champion Texans have seen the SIMBL's biggest increase in payroll from a season ago as they jumped from 20th in 2022 to 8th this season going from over $72,000,000 last season to over $134,000,000 on 2023 Opening Day.
The Oregon Pioneers of GM Tim Melican jumped from 16th last season to 3rd in the SIMBL this season with team payroll at over $172,000,000.
Other notable jumps from last season are GM Pat Flanagan's Texas Roadrunners (14th to 5th), the Direwolves of Deer Lake GM Chip Orton (18th to 6th), Cleveland GM Jonathan Fitzgerald's Brownies (11th to 2nd), Boston GM Dennis Walters' Revolution (10th to 4th) and Las Vegas GM Carl Hannah's Hustlers (22nd to 14th).
Chicago GM John Bowden's rebuilding Hitmen remain the SIMBL's lowest team payroll from 2022 Opening Day at over $59,000,000.
GMs who have made substantial declines in team payroll from last season are Knoxville Lumberkings GM Andy Hutchinson (5th to 23rd), Bristol Owls GM Greg Checovetes (7th to 20th), San Diego Warewolves GM Paul Ware (4th to 16th), Whitby Battalion GM John Callahan (3rd to 11th) and Astoria Wolverines GM Doug Craft (2nd to 11th).
